Lang Lang and TikTok LIVE launch classical music campaign
TikTok LIVE has announced a new global campaign with pianist Lang Lang, highlighting the growing classical music community on the platform.
The campaign, Lang Lang LIVE: Beyond the Keys, launched on 19 May 2026, at Homerton College, University of Cambridge, where Lang Lang received an honorary degree recognising his contribution to music and culture.
Before the degree ceremony, Lang Lang will appear on TikTok LIVE in conversation with creator host Molly Allin. The livestream will open a wider campaign bringing together performers, educators, institutions and digital creators who are using the platform to introduce classical music to new audiences.
According to TikTok, nearly one million posts now use the #ClassicalMusic hashtag, with creators sharing piano performances, orchestral reinterpretations, educational explainers, rehearsal content, humour and viral sound trends. The platform says artists including Anna Lapwood and Ludovico Einaudi have built highly engaged communities on TikTok, while emerging creators are using accessible formats to introduce classical music to younger and more diverse audiences.
Lang Lang said, ‘Music is all about connection – it’s a universal language that should have no barriers. I am so incredibly inspired by the way a whole new generation is discovering classical music on TikTok; they aren’t just listening, they are truly feeling it and making it their own.
‘What excites me most is using TikTok LIVE to take people “Beyond the Keys” in real-time. It allows us to share those raw, emotional moments of performance in a way that is direct, personal and inclusive.’
The campaign will run on TikTok LIVE from 19–28 May 2026, with creators in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Poland and the US taking part through performances, conversations and interactive sessions.
It will culminate on 12 June with an offline creator event and livestream in Leipzig, Germany, featuring a piano performance, creator collaborations and Q&A sessions.
The Lang Lang collaboration follows TikTok’s wider work with classical music organisations. Earlier this year, TikTok and the Southbank Centre launched Crescendo, a creator programme supporting emerging classical music creators in the UK. TikTok has also worked with the Fryderyk Chopin Institute on digital approaches to classical music discovery and education.
Sui Chen, Head of Operations, TikTok LIVE, Western & Central Europe, said, ‘Classical music is experiencing a remarkable cultural resurgence on TikTok, driven by creators who are reimagining how the genre can be discovered, shared and experienced by new audiences around the world.’
TikTok says LIVE hosted more than three million live music sessions in Europe during the first four months of 2026, with engagement up 200% compared with the previous season.
